The Huntsville Archery Club JOAD Program is open to all young people from 10 to 20 years of age and handicap/wheelchair youth are welcome. Whether your goal is to be a future Olympic archer, competitive tournament shooter, a hunter or simply shoot for fun and recreation this program is for both the new and experienced archers. The purpose is to introduce young people to the sport of archery, teach them safe shooting skills, improve shooting ability and have fun.
JOAD stands for Junior Olympic Archery Development, a program that provides archery instruction and competition for young archers across the country and in foreign countries. The JOAD program is part of the National Archery Association (NAA), a non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting the sport of archery in the United States. The NAA is the national governing body for archery in the United States and is responsible for the U.S. Olympic Archery Team. Through the JOAD Olympian Award program, young archers can earn incentive awards as they develop and improve their skills. Achievement pins start at one star and advance to the eight star pin. The Olympian achievement awards, bronze, silver and gold are awarded after the eight star pin. The 1996 Olympic double-gold medalist is a product of the JOAD program.
The program is run by Coach Lynn Riggs, a highly qualified and experienced instructor and archer who has been operating this program for over 12 years.
